For The Culture: A Genealogy Handbook For The Cool Kids
Aungelic “Gigi” Nelson had been unable to find a family history book written specifically for Black teens, so decided to write it herself. Genealogy is too often seen as a hobby for older people, but she wants to change that narrative and help our kids understand that they have a history and a culture that started before slavery. With a lot of pictures, a little history, and a culturally relevant perspective, this book is a must-have for every Black family to engage youth (ages 11-19) with their elders and start those conversations about the past. Pan-African in outlook, this is a one-of-a-kind resource and activity handbook that helps ground Black youth in their identity and strengthen resilience.
